Terms of service

Last updated 28 October 2026

These terms cover the hosted Trace service at app.tracetells.com. Trace is run by Deyan Dobrinov, an individual, not a company (hello@tracetells.com). By creating an account you agree to them. The open-source software itself is covered by its licence (AGPL-3.0), not by these terms.

An early, free service

The hosted service is a free beta. It is provided as is, without any warranty or promise of availability, accuracy or fitness for a purpose. Features, limits and plans may change, and the service may be interrupted, or stopped altogether, at any time. Keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose: the same software can be run on your own server.

Who can use it

You must be at least 18, and you may only add the collector to websites that you own or are allowed to measure.

Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for the websites you connect, and towards their visitors: telling them about the analytics and asking for their consent where the rules that apply to you require it. Trace's consent bar helps, but deciding whether to use it is yours.
  • Don't send Trace sensitive personal information, such as health data, payment details or passwords. Trace is built to avoid collecting it; don't work around that.
  • Don't use the service to break the law, harm or track individual people, overload or attack it, or get around its limits.
  • Keep your password, two-step verification and API tokens safe. What is done with them counts as done by you.

Limits

Your plan's limits (data kept, websites, monthly events, people) are shown in the dashboard under Plan. Over a limit, Trace stops recording for the rest of the month; your websites keep working.

Ending

You can stop at any time; write to hello@tracetells.com to have your account and its data deleted. An account that breaks these terms may be suspended or closed. If the service is going to stop, I will try to announce it on tracetells.com in advance, so you can move to your own server.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost data or interruptions, and total liability for anything related to the service is limited to what you paid for it in the past 12 months, which on the Free plan is nothing. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

Changes

These terms may change. The new version is published here with a new date, and significant changes are announced on tracetells.com before they apply. Using the service after that means you accept them.
